Sitemaps

It's been just about a near Google has been offering the sitemaps console, while likely longer for scheme testing.

The schema now has been accepted by Yahoo and MSN and joint developers of the newly formed "sitemaps.org." Check out Google, Yahoo and MSN for how they are now implementing the sitemaps schema in their infrastructure.

Open Java

This rocks.

I don't know how much development I'll be doing writing add-ons for J2SE but this puts a lot of development on the horizon for all platforms.

With today's gerth of Java and worldwide use it makes a strong argument for more standization accross all platforms, further loosening the borders for development across all platforms. The items now released under GPL/Linux:
  • Open-Source Java SE: Today Sun is releasing the source code for the Java HotSpot virtual machine, the Java programming language compiler (javac), and JavaHelp online help software. Release of a fully buildable Java SE Development Kit (JDK) based nearly entirely on open-source code is expected in the first half of 2007.

  • Open-Source Java ME: Sun is first releasing the source code for Sun's Java ME Feature Phone implementation based on Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), which currently enables rich mobile data services in more than 1.5 billion handsets, and the source code for the Java ME testing and compatibility kit (TCK) framework. Later this year, Sun will release additional source code for the Advanced Operating System Phone implementation for based on the Connected Device Configuration (CDC) specification and the framework for the Java Device Test Suite.

  • New Developer Communities: Tapping its experience in building dynamic and transparent open-source communities, Sun is launching the OpenJDK Community and the Mobile & Embedded Community to support developer participation in evolving the open-source JDK and open-source Java ME implementations respectively.

I don't have to much to say on this one, the reviews are kind of boring. The best point though, rather easily, is the low level coder giving the beautiful news that Explorer is more stable, I don't know how stable but it's at the very least more stable.

The repeated mention of enhanced security is good, but I'd like to see after 3 months on that one. I don't know how well that's been tested really.

The news of a cool UI is good, from my standpoint it could spark increasingly better UI's in general. All else seems rather usual from the responses.

My hopes is that there has been more work on crossplatform support, cygwin implementation coming standard kind of thing - I'd give them three cheers for that.
